The U.S. Secretary of Defense announced that the United States will begin attacking key locations in Iran on Wednesday night (local time), accusing Iran of attempting to delay and prolong the negotiations.
On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, Pete Hegseth, U.S. Secretary of Defense, said in front of the U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Florida, that the United States would soon start bombing "key locations" in Iran.
"Central Command (CENTCOM) will definitely have a busy night, because President Trump has declared that we will strike Iran heavily, and we will do so because Iran had the chance to reach a good, excellent agreement—one they had said they were ready to sign—but they have not followed through," Hegseth said.
"So, as President Trump said, they have been stalling and hesitating, dragging the negotiations out. You can see when someone tries to delay a deal, but this time what they will receive instead are bombs from the U.S. falling on key sites across Iran," Hegseth said.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense also said this action is not because the U.S. wants to restart something unnecessarily, but because the Department of Defense is "ready to set the conditions to ensure we get the agreement President Trump expects."
Hegseth added later that the attacks on Wednesday night "will be severe and intense," and if attacks "need to continue into tomorrow night, they will be equally intense and clear."
Earlier on Wednesday, President Trump said Iran had taken "too long in negotiating a deal" and that the U.S. would "hit them very hard."
