A tragic incident occurred in the Pakistan-controlled side of Kashmir after a military Mi-17 helicopter crashed, resulting in the deaths of all personnel on board.
The Pakistani military reported that the incident took place last Wednesday near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Initial assessments suggest the crash may have been caused by technical malfunctions of the aircraft.
However, officials have not yet disclosed the number of passengers and crew aboard the helicopter, nor have they released the names of the deceased. Rescue teams and military personnel were immediately dispatched to the crash site to recover and transport the bodies.
The crash occurred amid ongoing protests and strikes in the nearby area, raising concerns about possible links to the local unrest. Nonetheless, the Pakistani military has confirmed that the accident is not connected to any demonstrations or political events.
The military has ordered the formation of an investigative committee to determine the exact cause of the accident, including examining the engine condition, flight systems, and other factors that may have contributed to the crash.
The Commander of the Pakistani military issued a statement expressing condolences for the loss and extended sympathies to the families of the deceased personnel. He affirmed that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Mi-17 helicopter model is among the aircraft used by the Pakistani military for various missions, including troop transport, humanitarian aid, and operations in mountainous or hard-to-reach areas.
Previously, in September 2025, another Pakistani military helicopter crashed during a mission, resulting in the deaths of two pilots and three technicians.
This latest event marks another air accident causing losses to the Pakistani military, with investigations ongoing to establish the facts.
