Iran Announces Complete Closure of Strait of Hormuz in Response to New U.S. Attacks

Tensions in the Middle East have flared up again after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil shipping route, in retaliation for a new wave of U.S. airstrikes targeting several locations in Iran.

The Iranian Navy declared it would attack any ship attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and stated that the shipping route is now completely closed to all types of vessels. This decision came after the U.S. launched airstrikes against Iran’s air defense bases, radar systems, and military areas recently, with reports of multiple explosions in the southern region near the Strait. Iran has since begun self-defense strikes against various targets within the country, accusing Tehran of continuous provocation and aggressive behavior.

Iran also claimed it attacked two ships attempting to navigate the strait, as well as a U.S. naval base in Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

However, the U.S. military denied these claims, stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and commercial vessels can continue to transit as usual.

President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. launched 49 Tomahawk missiles at targets in Iran and warned that if Iran refuses to accept conditions to end the conflict, the attacks would intensify.

This conflict has raised global concerns because about one-fifth of the world's crude oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. An escalation could impact energy prices and the global economy.
