Donald Trump acknowledged that Americans might not want the military to seize Iran's Kharg Island but would rather see the troops come home, following his recent threatening post about taking the island.
On Thursday, 11 Jun 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News that he was unsure whether Americans were prepared or willing to support the large-scale military operation required to seize Iran's Kharg Island, after he had recently posted a threat to take over the island.
Trump said that seizing Kharg Island, a crucial oil hub in the Strait of Hormuz, was "what he wanted," but he admitted, "I don't know if America has the courage. I think they want us to come home more."
Additionally, Trump stated that Iran was "eager to make a deal," while he himself "wanted to reach an agreement now more than three or four weeks ago."
U.S. officials and military experts have noted that such a ground operation would be extremely risky, including a high likelihood of severe casualties for U.S. forces, since it would require deploying ground troops.
Kharg Island is considered a vital economic lifeline for Iran, serving as the point handling about 90% of the country's crude oil exports.
However, Trump assured Fox News that Iran would face "more intense" U.S. military attacks tonight. "Yes, there will be additional bombings tonight," he said, adding that the forthcoming bombs would be "larger and more destructive."
