Trump Claims New Iranian Supreme Leader Supports Agreement, Agrees to End Nuclear Program

Donald Trump claimed that the new Supreme Leader of Iran supports an agreement he says both sides have reached, and added that Iran has agreed to end its efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

On Thursday, 11 Jun 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Iran's new Supreme Leader supports the peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, and disclosed that the Tehran government has agreed "in principle" to allow the U.S. to oversee the security of nuclear materials and to end its nuclear weapons development efforts.

"I understand the answer is yes," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House when asked if Iran's Supreme Leader had approved the agreement. He added that the U.S. would lift sanctions immediately upon signing the deal.

Trump also praised what he called a "very strong Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)," acknowledging it might "seem somewhat conceptual" but affirming that Iran has pledged to forgo nuclear capabilities.

"They will have no nuclear weapons. They have agreed on that... There will be no development whatsoever, which is the whole point and a very important part," Trump said. "They will not only have none, but will not acquire or develop in any way, form, or manner anything related to nuclear weapons."

Trump further claimed he believes Iran's negotiating team wants this agreement "as much as I do, or perhaps even more."

Notably, Donald Trump ordered heavy attacks on Iran on Thursday night but rescinded the order hours later, citing progress in resolving the last outstanding issues in the peace agreement. The deal is expected to be signed as early as this weekend.

Trump asserted that the latest military operations pressured the Tehran government into agreeing to this deal, stating that Iran "was hammered in a way few could endure, and now they want the deal even more than I do."

However, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed or disclosed any agreement to the terms.
