British Royal Family Participates in Trooping the Colour Ceremony Celebrating King Charles IIIs Birthday

The British royal family participated in the parade marking King Charles III's official birthday, with thousands of people attending to watch.

On Saturday, 13 Jun 2026 GMT+7, large crowds gathered in central London to witness the Trooping the Colour ceremony held in honor of King Charles III's official birthday.

This parade is one of the year's grandest state and military ceremonies, highlighted by an aerial display from the Red Arrows aerobatic team, which members of the royal family observed from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

On this occasion, King Charles III and Queen Camilla appeared alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. Prince Louis, who has often drawn attention in the past, was present at age eight, displaying a more composed demeanor and interacting with his parents as planes flew overhead.

The moments on the balcony symbolized the continuity of the British monarchy, with King Charles III standing beside future heirs to the throne, Prince William and Prince George.

Earlier, King Charles III and Queen Camilla rode in an open carriage under bright sunlight, traveling past thousands of well-wishers lining the route from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to the Horse Guards Parade ground.

The ceremony's name, "Trooping the Colour," derives from "Colours," the term for the regimental flags of the British Army. The event featured over 1,400 military personnel, 200 horses, and 400 musicians.

Each year, a different regiment's colours are paraded; this year, the flag of the Grenadier Guards was showcased.

After the parade, King Charles III received the highest military honors, including a 41-gun salute fired by the King's Royal Artillery.

Following this, he inspected the troops and observed the regimental colours marching past the Foot Guards, before leading the Guards' procession back to Buckingham Palace, where further honors were rendered.

However, the ceremony was tinged with sadness for the participating forces, as Gunner Sierra Sullivan, who was to ride in this year's Trooping the Colour, tragically died after a fall from her horse during the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May.

In the weeks leading up to the event, members of the King's Royal Artillery have held commemorative activities in her memory during preparations and ceremonies before Saturday.
