Trump Announces Agreement with Iran, Signing and Strait Opening Set for This Friday

Donald Trump announced that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement, confirming that a joint signing will take place this Friday, after which the Strait of Hormuz will be open to all vessels.

On Sunday, 14 June 2026, Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced that the U.S. has successfully reached an agreement with Iran and will end its maritime blockade against Iran, marking the most significant progress in several months of ongoing negotiations.

“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone!” Trump declared in a message on the Truth Social platform.

The U.S. leader stated he has approved the immediate lifting of the U.S. maritime blockade, adding, “All ships worldwide, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

“I hereby exercise full authority to approve the opening of the Strait of Hormuz for transit without tolls and simultaneously approve the immediate lifting of the U.S. Navy’s maritime blockade,” Trump said in the post.

Subsequently, Iranian officials also confirmed that the draft of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United States has been finalized and that an official signing will take place on Friday, 19 June 2026, in Switzerland.

“The draft of the memorandum of understanding has received final approval, and the official signing ceremony of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ will be held in Switzerland this Friday,” said Kazem Garebadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for International Legal Affairs, speaking to government media.

“Our obligations will take effect from this Friday onward,” Garebadi emphasized. “However, there are two points that will be effective immediately starting early this morning,” local time: 1. An immediate and permanent ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon; 2. The cancellation and end of the maritime blockade previously declared by the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Then Trump posted again on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen this Friday after the agreement between the United States and Iran is officially signed.

“Once the Strait opens following the signing of the agreement this Friday, for the purpose of clearing explosive devices (mines), oil will begin flowing again from both sides for the benefit of this region and our world!” Trump stated.
