Trump Declares New Agreement Will Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

Donald Trump is preparing to disclose the contents of the agreement with Iran within the next few days, emphasizing that the deal will prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Foreign news agencies reported that on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the contents of the interim agreement between the U.S. and Iran aimed at ending the Middle East war will be made public soon, amid widespread skepticism about the deal.

The interim agreement will extend the fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, which began in April, by another 60 days and will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had effectively blockaded since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran on 28 February.

During a press conference at the G7 meeting in France, Mr. Trump said the agreement clearly states that the Tehran government will never possess nuclear weapons, and the full agreement will be officially made public in the coming days.

The U.S. leader added that he agrees with the idea of submitting the Iran deal to Congress for review, as requested by some Republican lawmakers.

U.S. and Iranian officials will sign the formal cooperation framework in Switzerland on Friday, 19 June, and will immediately begin the next phase of talks, expected to address complex and difficult issues such as the future of Iran’s nuclear program.

However, two key issues previously cited by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as reasons for war—ending Iran's support for regional proxy armed groups and limiting its missile program—are expected to be excluded from this round of negotiations.

"Iran wants to see this succeed," Trump told reporters about the upcoming talks with Iran. "They need to get back on track, and now relations have returned to normal levels. So I think everything will move very quickly."

It is expected that Vice President J.D. Vance and Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will attend the official signing ceremony this Friday.
