Donald Trump urged Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the G7 leaders' summit in France.
On 16 June 2026, US President Donald Trump suggested that Russia should make a peace agreement with Ukraine, adding that he would do everything possible to end the war after having a "very good joint meeting" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and G7 leaders at the summit in France.
Trump arrived at the G7 summit held from 15 to 17 June in Évian-les-Bains, a lakeside resort town, following a preliminary agreement to end the conflict with Iran, which allowed him to refocus on ending the war in Ukraine.
Zelensky and European leaders tried to show Trump that Ukraine's situation was improving, while the Kyiv government was pushing for additional aid to gain leverage in potential future peace talks with Moscow's government.
Trump expressed satisfaction with the results of his meeting with the Ukrainian leader and other G7 presidents in a closed session on Tuesday, stating, "I will do everything I can," and adding that too many young people on both sides were losing their lives on the battlefield.
"Listen, Russia should agree to a deal now," Trump said. "I have managed to resolve eight wars, and this one is the easiest I have ever thought I could handle."
