Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon, Killing 4 Iran Warns of Peace Agreement Violation

Israeli drones attacked multiple locations in southern Lebanon, killing at least four people amid progress in ceasefire negotiations, while Iran warned that continued occupation of territory constitutes a violation of the peace agreement.

On 17 June 2026 GMT+7, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli airstrikes in Nabatieh province in southern Lebanon killed at least four people, despite ongoing efforts to push for a ceasefire and mutual understanding between the U.S. and Iran to end regional conflict.

Reports stated that Israeli drones struck two vehicles in the city of Mayfadeen, while another vehicle was targeted in the village of Shukin, resulting in multiple deaths. The incident occurred amid an agreement reached between the U.S. and Iran, with Iranian officials repeatedly emphasizing that any ceasefire must include halting Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Although the full text of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has not been disclosed, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as one of the mediation figures, revealed that the agreement requires an immediate cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Israel’s continued occupation of southern Lebanon violates the agreement, adding that as long as Israeli forces have not withdrawn from the areas seized during the war, the conflict cannot be considered fully ended.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Central Command of Qatam al-Anbiya issued a statement warning that if Israel does not stop its attacks in southern Lebanon, the Iranian military will respond with severe measures.

Additionally, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and head of the senior negotiation team, held a phone call with Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, urging the U.S. to pressure Israel to end the war in Lebanon, halt the destruction of homes, and withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory.
