Cambodian media has reported that Techo International Airport has been named among the world's most beautiful airports for 2026 by the Prix Versailles, recognized for its design blending modern architecture with Khmer cultural identity.
On 18 June 2026 GMT+7, Cambodia's Techo International Airport was selected as one of the "Most Beautiful Airports in the World for 2026" in the World Selection awards, an international architecture and design competition. The jury praised its architectural excellence, reflection of Khmer identity, and integration of Cambodian culture into the design.
The event has been held under the support of UNESCO since 2015, to honor projects that combine architectural excellence, innovation, creativity, local heritage, environmental efficiency, and positive social impact.
The award secretary stated that modern airports are not just transportation hubs but symbols of a country's economic, cultural, and social strength. Previous winners in this category include Terminal 2 at Singapore Changi Airport and Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, USA.
Techo International Airport is a key infrastructure project by Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation, designed by the British architectural firm Foster + Partners. The airport features a large roof and a raised central structure reflecting ancient Khmer architectural styles, while interior structural details draw inspiration from traditional Cambodian basket weaving.
