Israel continues to carry out attacks against Lebanon despite the U.S. and Iran signing an MOU to end their war. Israeli leaders have affirmed they will not withdraw troops from southern Lebanon.
Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported on Thursday, 18 Jun 2026 GMT+7, that Israel struck southern parts of Lebanon again, initially causing three fatalities just one day after the U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end their conflict.
According to NNA, two people died after a car in the southern town of Kfar Tebnit was targeted by an Israeli drone. In a separate incident, a man was killed in the southern town of Zebdin due to another drone attack.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump signed the MOU together on Wednesday (17 Jun). The key provisions of this 800-word document include ending hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, the 14-point agreement promises to establish a $300 billion recovery fund for Iran, lift sanctions to allow Iran to sell oil on the global market, and unfreeze Iranian assets seized by the U.S.
Meanwhile, Israel has strongly declared it will not withdraw forces from Lebanon, even as both governments prepare for a new round of talks scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C. next week.
“We will restore security to the northern region [of Israel],” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, marking his first public statement since details of the U.S.-Iran agreement were released. “To achieve this, it is necessary to maintain the security zone in southern Lebanon.”
