Iran and US to Send Representatives to Switzerland to Urge Compliance with Agreement

Iranian authorities revealed that their delegation is preparing to travel to Switzerland for negotiations and to monitor the agreement's progress, while the US has already sent representatives and the vice president is set to follow.

On Saturday, 20 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Esmail Baghai, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Iran's negotiation team will soon travel to Switzerland to engage with the US to "follow up and demand that the other side fulfill their commitments."

"We remain committed to our obligations, and the other side must compel the Israeli regime to stop attacking Lebanon," Baghai stated, according to Fars News Agency. "If any part of the other side's commitments is not honored, the entire agreement could be at risk. The other side must take necessary measures promptly; otherwise, the overall agreement will face problems."

Baghai also said that if the US "neglects its contractual duties," Iran "will respond with necessary measures as well."

Previously, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz again, citing retaliation against Israel's violations of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and the US's "failure to comply" with the first provision of the preliminary ceasefire agreement.

The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war last week, with the first of 14 provisions requiring "an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon."

Baghai also revealed that US and Iranian representatives were originally scheduled to travel to Switzerland last Friday, but the plan was postponed because the US-Iran agreement was digitally signed, making an immediate meeting "no longer operationally urgent."

Meanwhile, US officials stated that Vice President J.D. Vance is scheduled to travel to Switzerland today as preparations for talks with Iran begin. However, there is no confirmed departure time for him yet.

Currently, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, have arrived in the area to handle technical details of the negotiations, which had been uncertain due to ongoing fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

"We will plan the talks once key representatives from the Iranian government, as well as from Qatar and Pakistan, arrive. Negotiations could start as soon as tomorrow, but these matters are often flexible and subject to change," J.D. Vance told Fox News.
