Vance Points Out Different Goals for US and Israel Regarding Iran

US Vice President JD Vance said the United States and Israel might have different goals regarding Iran and emphasized that Donald Trump is willing to give diplomatic talks with Iran a chance, unlike some Israeli leaders.

On Saturday, 20 Jun 2026 GMT+7, US Vice President JD Vance told Fox News that the United States and Israel might have differing views on how to achieve objectives in the conflict with Iran.

"I’m not sure if the difference lies in the goals themselves," Vance said. "Sometimes it’s just a difference in how to achieve those goals. Of course, I don’t want to speak for the Israeli government—they are good allies in many respects—but what the US president has stated, in contrast to some members of their government, is that we will give this negotiation a chance."

Vance’s remarks came just days after he issued a fairly strong warning to Israel during a White House press briefing about Israel’s continued attacks in Lebanon.

"Right now, Donald J. Trump is the only leader in the world who still shows sympathy for Israel," Vance told reporters. "And he also happens to be the leader of the world’s superpower. If I were in the Israeli cabinet, I certainly wouldn’t attack the only powerful ally I have left in this world."

The US Vice President also stressed that Israel should act cautiously regarding Iran-related matters, so as not to deviate from the United States’ goals.

He cited Israel’s heavy reliance on American weapons and added that some Israeli leaders need to “wake up and accept the reality of the situation their country is facing.”
