Trump Confirms Sir Keir Starmer Set to Resign as UK Prime Minister

Donald Trump posted a message confirming that Sir Keir Starmer is about to resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after facing internal party pressure and a rival’s significant election victory.

On Sunday, 21 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, former U.S. President, posted on Truth Social confirming that Sir Keir Starmer is about to resign as UK Prime Minister, pointing out the British leader’s failures in two key areas.

"Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He has utterly failed in two very important areas: immigration control and energy policy (allowing oil drilling in the North Sea!). I wish him luck! — President DJT," Trump’s message stated.

Currently, the UK’s political situation is at a critical turning point, as major media outlets report that Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces intense pressure from both his cabinet and Labour MPs demanding he announce a clear resignation timetable.

The key trigger weakening Starmer’s power occurred last Friday when 56-year-old Andy Burnham, former Mayor of Manchester and Starmer’s major political rival, won a by-election in the Makerfield constituency and secured a seat in the House of Commons, legally enabling Burnham to challenge for party leadership and the premiership.

Reuters data shows that more than 100 Labour MPs, about a quarter of the party’s parliamentary members, publicly called for Starmer’s resignation. Insiders admit that only a few close MPs remain loyal and stand by him.

Furthermore, reports indicate that five senior government ministers—including Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, and Starmer’s close friend Ed Miliband—have privately signaled to Starmer to set a resignation schedule rather than stubbornly fight a leadership challenge that might lead to his public humiliation if defeated.
