Trump Threatens Iranian Delegates, Vows to Seize Strait of Hormuz if Talks Fail

Donald Trump warned that the United States might take control of the Strait of Hormuz if negotiations fail and threatened the Iranian delegates negotiating with the U.S. in Switzerland that they might not return home if Iran closes the strait.

On Sunday, 21 Jun 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump gave a 20-minute telephone interview to Fox News, stating that the U.S. might "take control" of the Strait of Hormuz if no agreement is reached with Iran, while threatening the Iranian negotiation team meeting with U.S. representatives in Switzerland.

"We might seize that strait if necessary," Trump told Fox News. "If they refuse to make a deal, we'll just charge a toll."

The U.S. leader also signaled a possible return to bombing Iran, threatening the Iranian negotiation team by saying, "If you close it, you won’t have a country left... You won’t even be able to return to your f**king country."

Trump reiterated his belief that the U.S. could act as the "Guardian Angel" of the Strait of Hormuz and would take a 20% share from all oil transported through this strait.

In addition to the Fox News interview, Trump posted on Truth Social regarding Iran’s proxy forces in Lebanon: "Iran must order its well-paid proxies in Lebanon to stop causing trouble immediately. If they don’t, we will strike Iran again severely, just like last week, but much harder!!!"

Iranian government media reported that the Iranian delegation participating in talks in Switzerland has officially submitted a protest letter against Trump’s threats.

“The Iranian delegation has lodged a protest to the U.S. side and is considering various appropriate options to respond to Donald Trump’s latest verbal threats,” Press TV, Iran’s government television station, posted on the X platform.
