Supporters of India's "Cockroach Janata Party" have been protesting in New Delhi for four days, continuing to demand the Education Minister's resignation over a leaked medical exam scandal that has undermined trust in the education system.
On 23 June 2026, the demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in New Delhi entered its fourth day. Students, young people, and many job seekers remain camped at the Shantarmantra Observatory, calling for Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister, to resign over the medical exam leak scandal.
Reports indicate the protest was sparked by the NEET-UG exam, a highly competitive medical entrance test in India, after allegations of exam leaks caused widespread dissatisfaction among students and parents. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the exam, stated the re-examination proceeded smoothly with no new reports of leaks. On Sunday, millions of candidates retook the exam nationwide under heightened security measures including biometric verification.
The CJP, which uses the cockroach as its symbol and mimics the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said their movement aims to push for accountability and transparency in the country's education system. They view the re-exam as insufficient, emphasizing the need for those in power to take responsibility for what they see as a failed system impacting millions of students.
The protest began on 19 June after police permitted the event until 5 p.m. on 20 June. When the permit expired, protesters refused to disperse, declaring they would stay until the Education Minister resigns. CJP founder Abhijit Dipak told the crowd the protest demands government accountability and encouraged more citizens to join the movement.
