Lazada announced a 5% workforce reduction in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, stating the move is to align with current business needs.
On Tuesday, 23 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Lazada announced a 5% workforce cut across Southeast Asia as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the company "remains focused on its goals, efficient, and aligned with current business demands."
"We are committed to supporting affected employees during this transition with appropriate advice and assistance, in accordance with legal requirements," Lazada told Channel News Asia (CNA).
However, Lazada did not specify which positions are affected, stating only that the company is "currently reviewing certain selected roles" across the region.
Lazada operates in six Southeast Asian markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
In Singapore, Lazada revealed it is coordinating with the Food and Drinks Workers' Union (FDAWU) to ensure the transition is managed responsibly and to assist affected employees.
Sankaradas S. Shami, General Secretary of FDAWU, said Lazada informed the union of the layoffs in advance and that the union is collaborating with the company to help affected members and workers.
FDAWU will also provide additional support, including assistance with job placement and skills development as needed, and will connect affected union members with NTUC’s network, such as the National Trade Union Centre’s Institute for Career Readiness and Employment and NTUC’s Professional, Managerial and Executive (PME) unit.
Lazada’s most recent workforce reduction was in January 2024, when FDAWU expressed disappointment over the lack of prior notice or consultation before the layoffs, describing such conduct as "unacceptable."
