The U.S. Secretary of State revealed that expert-level negotiations with Iran will begin on 30 June, while calling on Iran to allow nuclear inspectors to return to the country promptly.
On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio disclosed that upcoming technical discussions with Iran, as part of ongoing negotiations, will be expert-level talks involving working groups on various issues.
Rubio believes the talks will start on 30 June and added that these discussions “are at the level of operational officials, such as experts in nuclear energy, sanctions measures, and other areas.”
“Officials from the State Department will participate in these talks along with staff from the Department of Energy and other agencies; that is what technical-level negotiations mean,” Rubio told reporters in Kuwait.
Additionally, the U.S. Secretary of State emphasized that nuclear inspectors should be allowed to enter Iran “as soon as possible,” telling reporters, “That is the commitment Iran has made, and it is something they need to uphold.”
Rubio is currently on a trip to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, aiming to gather views from these countries and to express gratitude “for the outstanding support they have provided during U.S. military operations in Iran.”
Rubio stressed that the U.S. will not “undermine the security” of its Gulf allies in talks with Iran and stated he “has seen no signs of doubt” about the security guarantees provided to the region.
“I believe we have a firmly aligned position,” Rubio told reporters, noting that the U.S. will “fully coordinate with its Gulf Arab allies” regarding Iran’s missile program.
“We have longstanding relationships with these countries going back decades,” Rubio said. “We have personnel deployed in these countries, and we maintain military assets there as well.”
