Two strong earthquakes struck consecutively near Venezuela's capital, causing multiple buildings to collapse. It is still unclear how many people have been injured or killed.
On 25 June 2026, two powerful earthquakes hit near Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, occurring just seconds apart. The first measured 7.2 magnitude, followed by a 7.5 magnitude quake. The tremors caused many buildings to collapse, and people rushed out onto the streets after the events.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquakes occurred near Montalbán and the city of Yumare, at depths of approximately 13.2 km and 10 km, respectively. The quakes began at 18:04 local time.
The Venezuelan Ministry of Interior revealed that several other states in Venezuela also felt the tremors. Initially, a tsunami warning was issued immediately after the quakes, but authorities later canceled the alert.
So far, there have been no reports detailing the number of injuries or deaths resulting from the earthquakes.
