A British female TikTok star was arrested in Dubai on charges of murdering her boyfriend, facing a possible death sentence. Human rights groups are calling on authorities to categorize this case as domestic violence.

On 25 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the human rights group “Detained in Dubai” revealed that Brook George, a 23-year-old TikTok influencer, was charged with stabbing a young man she was dating after meeting him online. She now faces the death penalty by firing squad.

Ms. George claims she grabbed a knife to defend herself during a violent assault by her partner in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The group is demanding her release on bail and requests the case be treated as domestic violence.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) stated it is providing assistance to the detained British woman in the UAE and supporting her family.

Ms. George, from Gravesend in Kent, England, and a former employee of the John Lewis department store, was arrested in the early hours of 22 Jun. She faces premeditated murder charges and, if convicted, could be sentenced to death under UAE law.

“Detained in Dubai” added that while held at the Bur Dubai police station, Ms. George reported being forced to strip in front of male officers without any female officers present, describing the experience as “deeply humiliating and traumatic.”

Ratha Sterling, CEO of “Detained in Dubai,” disclosed that George’s relationship with her boyfriend deteriorated, involving physical and emotional abuse during their second visit to Dubai.

George stated her partner increasingly controlled and abused her. She attempted to leave Dubai after he punched her, confiscated her passport, and assaulted her again at their apartment, leading her to fear for her life and grab a nearby kitchen knife in self-defense.

Sterling said, “Brook’s close contacts grew increasingly concerned she might have been lured to Dubai under false pretenses for exploitative purposes.”

“Their concerns were reinforced by the boyfriend’s unexplained behavioral changes, one-way flight tickets, a professional bikini photoshoot during her first visit, claims of passport confiscation, Brook telling friends ‘something isn’t right,’ and growing fears that forced her to feel the need to escape.”

“Detained in Dubai” also reported that George has not been allowed to contact her embassy and has had to give statements without a lawyer present.

Sterling commented, “This case has sparked serious concerns about violence against women, the right to self-defense, fair justice processes, and the treatment of detained British nationals abroad.”
