Hope Remains as Venezuelan Rescuers Continue Finding Survivors Under Earthquake Rubble

Venezuelan rescue workers pulled a woman from the rubble of a collapsed building in La Guaira state following powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude. Injuries have surged past 1,500, with over 200 people still trapped under debris and many more missing.

On 26 June 2026, Venezuelan rescue personnel and volunteers helped a woman from the rubble of a collapsed building in La Guaira, one of the hardest-hit areas by the two strong earthquakes on Wednesday evening. The survivor, Graciela Mora, was found trapped but conscious under the debris, able to extend her arm to rescuers before being carried on a stretcher to a hospital amid applause and encouragement from the rescue team.

Officials reported at least 188 deaths so far, with more than 200 people trapped under rubble. The death toll is expected to rise following the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck just 40 seconds apart, marking some of the strongest earthquakes Venezuela has experienced in over a century. More than 1,500 people have been injured, and thousands remain missing across the country.

Reports state that La Guaira, located north of Caracas, was the most severely damaged area, with numerous buildings destroyed and many fatalities. The tremors were felt as far away as Brazil's Amazon region, approximately 1,700 kilometers from Caracas.
