A small plane crashed into the CITIC Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Beijing. The building's outer wall was damaged, and aircraft debris fell to the ground. Police have quickly sealed off the area to conduct an investigation. The cause remains unclear.
On 26 June 2026, a small plane crashed into the CITIC Tower, also known as "China Zun," a 109-story building standing 528 meters tall, making it the tallest skyscraper in Beijing, China. The impact damaged the upper glass walls, creating a large hole, while debris from the plane fell beneath the building.
Witnesses at the scene recorded footage of fire trucks spraying water to extinguish smoke billowing from the building. Police have cordoned off the surrounding area to facilitate rescue operations and investigations. However, official details have not yet been confirmed by Chinese authorities.
This incident has attracted significant attention because Beijing enforces strict flight controls over the city, especially after the government imposed restrictions on unmanned aerial vehicles and flights in several areas since May. Consequently, the appearance of an aircraft over the central business district is highly unusual.
As of now, Chinese authorities have not disclosed the cause of the accident or officially confirmed the number of fatalities or injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
