Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquake Rises to 920 as International Rescue Teams Rush to Find Survivors

Venezuela is in a severe crisis after earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck, with the death toll rising to 920 and over 3,360 injured. Meanwhile, several countries have sent rescue teams and humanitarian aid to join the search for survivors.

On 28 June 2026 GMT+7, the Venezuelan government announced that the death toll from two powerful earthquakes last Wednesday has risen to at least 920, with 3,360 injured. Many remain missing, and the death toll is expected to climb further.

Rescue teams continue urgently searching for survivors amid collapsed buildings, especially in La Guaira state in northern Venezuela, the hardest-hit area, as well as the capital, Caracas. Many injured have been treated in field hospitals and temporary medical centers after local hospitals were overwhelmed by the influx of patients.

Senior government officials stated that hundreds of international rescue workers have already arrived in Venezuela, with more teams en route to support search and relief operations. Several American continent countries, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Cuba, and the United States, along with the United Nations, have deployed search teams, rescue personnel, and humanitarian aid to the disaster zones. Meanwhile, families of the missing cling to faint hope as they await news from authorities.

The two earthquakes occurred just seconds apart, with the second measuring 7.5 — one of the strongest earthquakes Venezuela has experienced in over a century. The quakes caused widespread damage to buildings, homes, and infrastructure, including Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia and key national ports.
