Germany is facing an intense heatwave, recording the highest temperature ever since records began, measured at 41.3 degrees Celsius in Saarbrücken, set to break the previous 2019 record.
On 28 June 2026 GMT+7, the German Meteorological Service (DWD) reported that Germany might have set its highest temperature ever recorded after measuring 41.3 degrees Celsius in Saarbrücken, in the west of the country, last Friday.
However, the DWD noted that this figure is preliminary and may be adjusted after thorough data quality checks. If the 41.3 degrees Celsius is officially confirmed, it will become Germany's highest temperature record, surpassing the previous 41.2 degrees Celsius recorded in July 2019.
Several European countries are currently enduring severe heatwaves this summer, causing unusually high temperatures and raising concerns about climate change impacts, public health risks, and the danger of wildfires in many areas.
