Rome Sprays Mist to Cool Tourists at Colosseum Amid Heatwave

Rome, Italy has deployed mist-spraying vehicles at key tourist attractions to help alleviate heat for visitors, as many parts of the country face a severe heatwave with temperatures surpassing 36 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, authorities brought mist sprayers to the front of famous tourist sites like the Colosseum and Roman Forum to cool tourists visiting amid the sweltering weather.

The atmosphere was lively, with many tourists quickly standing under the mist to cool off; some even danced joyfully in the spray, while others wetted their hats before putting them on, and several chose to stand fully under the cool mist to escape the intense heat.

On the same day, the Italian Ministry of Health issued a red alert for 18 cities due to temperatures reaching dangerous levels for health, with many areas recording temperatures over 36 degrees Celsius.

Italy is among several Western European countries experiencing a heat dome phenomenon that has covered the region throughout the past week, causing temperatures in many countries to reach the high 30s Celsius and even exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological agencies in multiple countries have warned that this heatwave could impact life and health, especially in parts of Europe where air conditioning in buildings and homes remains limited, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
