Ceasefire Shaken: Iran Retaliates Against U.S. Strikes on Middle East Bases

Iran attacked U.S. military targets in the Middle East again on Saturday, retaliating against U.S. strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, destabilizing peace agreement efforts.

On Saturday, 27 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Iran’s government news agency Press TV reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced they struck U.S. military sites in the Middle East without specifying locations, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the U.S. of violating their bilateral agreement.

Bahraini authorities, hosting a U.S. base, reported detecting drone attacks from Iran on their territory early Saturday morning local time. Their Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks as "serious violations of Bahrain’s sovereignty," though they did not specify the exact locations targeted.

The latest escalation in the Middle East began when Iran attacked a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, 25 Jun, prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to sharply condemn it as a foolish violation of the ceasefire agreement.

On Friday, the U.S. military struck Iranian military targets around the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that U.S. aircraft attacked Iranian missile depots, drones, and coastal radar stations.

The U.S. military has not confirmed whether Iran attacked their bases in the Middle East, but this marks the first retaliatory strike since both sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week aimed at paving the way to end the war.

However, a U.S. official sought to ease concerns of escalation, telling CNN that these incidents do not indicate a return to large-scale combat operations, at least for now.
