6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Afghanistan and Pakistan No Damage Reported Yet

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, with tremors felt across several areas including neighboring Pakistan. Initial reports indicate no damage has been reported so far.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan at approximately 18:04 on Saturday, 27 June 2026, local time. The epicenter was located at a depth of 199 km, about 43 km south of Jurm city, Afghanistan.

Pakistan's Meteorological Department reported the earthquake's magnitude as 5.9. The tremors were felt in Islamabad, eastern Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the northwest bordering Afghanistan. They were also felt in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.

The earthquake caused panic, with people rushing out of their homes. However, Anwar Shahzad, spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Disaster Management Authority, stated that initial assessments have found no reports of deaths, injuries, or property damage.

Afghan authorities have not yet released any official statements about this earthquake. Afghanistan has experienced multiple earthquakes in recent years that have killed thousands.
