US Military Launches Additional Attacks on Iran, Citing Another Iranian Attack on Commercial Vessel

The US military launched a second attack on Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz within two days, citing retaliation after Iran attacked another commercial ship on Saturday.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed that the US military conducted additional strikes on various Iranian targets on Saturday (27 Jun 2026), under orders from President Donald Trump, as a “direct response to Iran’s ongoing aggression.”

“US military aircraft targeted Iran’s military reconnaissance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense bases, drone storage facilities, and mine-laying capabilities,” CENTCOM stated in a press release.

This additional strike followed Iran’s attack on a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday (25 Jun), which led the US to launch a retaliatory strike in the area on Friday, while both sides were attempting to negotiate a final agreement.

“After yesterday’s US strike in response to Iran’s attack on the cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely, Iran was given an opportunity to adhere to the ceasefire agreement but chose not to. Iranian forces launched a suicide drone attack on the oil tanker M/T Kiku early this morning at 04:30 Eastern Time (ET),” CENTCOM’s statement said.

The statement also noted that commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz normally.

Previously, Iran’s state-run Press TV reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated they had attacked US military sites in the Middle East in retaliation for the US strike on Friday, without specifying exact locations.

However, a US official later told CNN that the US “detected several drones” but that these drones did not reach their intended targets.
