Small Plane Crashes in France, Parachutists and Instructors Die in Tragedy with 11 Fatalities

A small plane carrying parachutists and instructors crashed in eastern France, killing all 11 people on board, while authorities are rushing to investigate the cause.

Local French authorities reported that a civilian plane carrying parachutists crashed near the town of Tomblaine in eastern France on Sunday, 28 Jun 2026, resulting in the deaths of all 11 people on board.

This incident ranks among the deadliest small plane accidents in France, with Yves Séguy, Governor of Meurthe-et-Moselle province in the east, stating that the victims included 5 instructors, 5 students, and 1 pilot.

"No eyewitnesses or bystanders were injured or killed," Séguy added during a press conference.

AFP reporters noted that the German-registered plane crashed onto a grassy area near the runway of Nancy-Essey Airport, close to residential areas and two roads, but the cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed.

Medical and psychological support teams are currently assisting the victims' relatives at the airport, as well as other eyewitnesses.

Amaury Lagotte, Deputy Prosecutor of Nancy in northern France, said that officials have begun a technical investigation into the accident.

Additionally, French police announced via the X platform that the public is urged to "strictly avoid" traveling to the airport vicinity to allow emergency and rescue personnel to work without obstruction.
