Israel has authorized its military to continue operations in southern Lebanon just days after signing a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, affirming that the agreement allows retaliation against Hezbollah.
On Sunday, 28 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement that Major General Eyal Zamir, IDF Chief of Staff, approved ongoing military actions in southern Lebanon, only two days after Israel signed the latest ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.
The Israeli military claims this approval "complies with the ceasefire agreement," emphasizing that the 14-point agreement signed jointly by Israel and Lebanon on Friday evening permits the IDF to respond to "attacks, threats, and hostile intentions" from Hezbollah.
"We will adhere to the agreement and act to ensure this ideology succeeds," said Major General Zamir.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah and Iran have rejected the agreement, demanding Israel fully withdraw its troops from Lebanon; Israel has already refused this demand.
Although a trilateral agreement involving the US, Israel, and Lebanon was signed in Washington, fighting in Lebanon continues. Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported Israeli strikes near two villages on Sunday and one Israeli soldier killed in a Hezbollah attack.
