Venezuelan Rescue Team Saves Two 11-Year-Old Boys After Being Trapped Under Rubble for 3 Days

Venezuelan rescue teams successfully freed two 11-year-old boys from beneath rubble after they had been trapped there for nearly three days following two consecutive earthquakes last week.

On Sunday, 28 Jun 2026 GMT+7, international news agencies reported that Venezuelan rescuers successfully extracted two 11-year-old boys from beneath the rubble after they had been trapped for over three days due to two severe consecutive earthquakes that caused many buildings to collapse.

Boy Moises was pulled from twisted rubble with his eyes covered to shield them from sunlight, amid applause from the rescue team.

Colombia's National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) revealed that Moises was buried about three meters deep, and rescuers spent six hours on Saturday conducting a “high-precision operation” to reach him.

Reuters reported hearing rescuers over the radio say they found Moises near his sister and mother, both of whom had already died.

Later, Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodriguez announced that another 11-year-old boy had also been rescued and posted a video on X showing the boy being carried down from the large rubble on a stretcher.

Since the two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck just 39 seconds apart on Wednesday, 24 June, Venezuelan authorities have confirmed 1,450 deaths and tens of thousands still missing.

Although more than three days have passed since the earthquakes, rescue teams remain hopeful that survivors may still be trapped underground, especially if they can deliver food and water to those beneath the rubble.

Rodriguez also revealed that the José María Vargas Sports Complex in the La Guaira region is being used as an emergency response center, where soldiers are sorting clothing, medicines, and food, adding, “Everything is proceeding as well as possible.”
