Six Dead in Shooting at German Youth Center Two Suspects Arrested

A shooting occurred at a youth center in a northern German city, resulting in six deaths. Police have arrested two suspects, including the gunman responsible for the attack.

Foreign news agencies reported that a gunman opened fire at the youth welfare center in Stade, northern Germany, killing four women and one man inside the building. Another victim later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to six.

Police told the BBC that all victims were adults. Authorities have arrested two suspects, including the perpetrator, and are investigating a third individual connected to the case. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

The incident took place at the youth welfare center on Dankersstrasse, which local media describe as a shelter for women and children. Police first received reports of gunfire at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time.

Police have cordoned off the area and issued warnings advising the public to avoid the vicinity.

German broadcasters ZDF and RTL quoted a Stade city spokesperson saying that children at nearby daycare and elementary schools remained inside the buildings during the shooting. Shortly afterward, parents arrived to safely pick them up.

Stade is located in the state of Lower Saxony, about 30 kilometers west of Hamburg, and has a population of approximately 50,000.
