Iran Reaffirms No Plans for Talks with U.S. Despite Trump Saying Talks Scheduled for Tuesday

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed that they have no plans for negotiations with the United States at any level in the near future, following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent statement that officials from both sides would meet on Tuesday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported on Monday, 29 Jun 2026 GMT+7, that Esmaeil Baqaei stated Iran has no scheduled meetings or negotiations with the United States at any level in the coming days, as Tehran remains focused on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) rather than moving toward final agreement talks.

Baqaei said Tehran's current top priority is ensuring that the various terms of the Memorandum of Understanding are being implemented and advancing its demands under the agreement.

He added that the U.S. has issued the necessary licenses tied to Clause 10, which covers oil sales, and Iran is monitoring the enforcement of these licenses.

He also mentioned that actions are underway regarding Clause 11, related to unfreezing Iranian assets, and in this context, a delegation of Iranian experts will travel to Doha, Qatar, later this week.

Baqaei clarified that Iran and the U.S. have not yet entered negotiations for a final agreement. He explained that under Clause 13 of the MOU, final agreement talks can only begin once Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 have come into effect and their terms are being continuously fulfilled.

He further stated that any visit by U.S. representatives to Qatar (if it occurs) will be unrelated to the Iranian delegation's visit, which is solely to follow up on the MOU's implementation, including Clause 11.

Baqaei's statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social: “Iran has requested a meeting, which will take place tomorrow in Doha!”

The U.S. and Iran had just declared an end to attacks on Monday after the U.S. launched strikes on Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz, citing retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels, while Tehran attacked U.S. military targets in various Middle Eastern countries.
