New York Prepares for the Wedding of the Year Taylor Swift - Travis Kelce Closing Madison Square Garden

U.S. media and multiple sources expect Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to hold a grand wedding at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden this Friday, amid top-tier security measures and a guest list of elite celebrities.

New York City is closely watching reports about the wedding of global singer Taylor Swift and famed American football player Travis Kelce. Several U.S. media outlets have reported that the couple plans to wed on the night of Friday, 3 July, at Madison Square Garden (MSG), a major landmark in Manhattan.

Although the wedding plans of billionaire superstar Taylor Swift and three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, both aged 36, have been kept highly confidential, law enforcement officials briefed on security measures told the Associated Press that the wedding of the year will definitely take place this Friday night.

Reports say the celebration will begin Thursday night with a special dinner for 100 close guests, followed by the full wedding event on Friday attended by about 1,000 top celebrities, including Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez, Zoë Kravitz, and Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs teammates.

Additionally, entertainment source TMZ revealed that inside Madison Square Garden’s massive hall, a large castle replica has been constructed as a spectacular backdrop for the event. All guests must sign confidentiality agreements and are prohibited from using mobile phones during the entire event.

The atmosphere around Madison Square Garden in recent days has been lively, with trucks and forklifts continuously delivering event equipment. A large red carpet was briefly laid at the entrance but quickly removed to avoid attention. The New York Times reported that police presence will increase and surrounding roads will be closed starting Thursday.

It is believed the couple has already arrived in New York. Swift’s private jet landed Tuesday, and her car was spotted in the city, while Kelce was photographed jogging in Manhattan.

Although Madison Square Garden, which can hold over 19,500 people, is an unusual wedding venue located above the busy Penn Station, it was chosen for maximum privacy. It has a secluded entrance, secure indoor parking, and no windows, effectively shielding the event from paparazzi and camera drones.

While Taylor Swift’s representatives have yet to officially confirm the event, senior city officials have indirectly acknowledged it. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated police are monitoring the large event at Madison Square Garden Friday night and have prepared their forces accordingly.

Meanwhile, New York Mayor Eric Adams posted a video warning residents about the week’s intense heat, adding with a knowing smile, “We’re ready, and we want you to be ready too, especially if you’re celebrating the World Cup, the 4th of July, or renting MSG to host a wedding this weekend.”

This week poses a major challenge for New York as it coincides with the U.S. Independence Day celebrations amid a heatwave and the World Cup match on 5 July. Janno Lieber, president of New York’s public transportation, advised celebrities to use the subway rather than risk traffic jams downtown on the event day.
