On 3 July 2026, Iranian news agencies reported that Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and currently Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, traveled to Tehran to pay respects to the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iranian government television stated that Medvedev came as a special envoy of President Vladimir Putin. During his visit, he met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
This visit occurs amid the close relationship between Russia and Iran, which has strengthened cooperation politically, economically, and in security over recent years, especially under the pressures and sanctions imposed by Western countries.
