A dramatic incident occurred in New York City when a seaplane made a violent water landing, causing alarm among people along the East River before authorities safely rescued the passengers and crew.
The New York City Fire Department reported that the seaplane had an accident while landing near the NY Skyport Seaplane Terminal on East 23rd Street along the East River. After touching the water, the plane tilted to the left, with its left wingtip submerging before it was later towed back to shore.
Initially, reports indicated there were 10 people on board, but officials later corrected the number to 8, including passengers and crew. All were safely evacuated from the plane, with two sustaining minor injuries and no fatalities.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated the aircraft involved was a Kodiak 100 model, which suffered damage to the wing strut during the hard landing. The FAA has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Images shared on social media showed the white seaplane tilted in the middle of the river, surrounded by several rescue boats and a helicopter circling overhead. Witnesses said the pilot initially tried to abort the landing before circling back to touch down again amid choppy water conditions.
This incident marks the second seaplane accident on the East River within less than a month. In mid-June, another seaplane made an emergency landing in the same area, with no injuries reported in that event either.
