On 6 July 2026, foreign news agencies reported that the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced an oil tanker was hit by an "unknown projectile" on its port side while sailing near Oman's coast, close to the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in a fire onboard.
UKMTO stated that at the time of the incident, the vessel was traveling southbound. After being struck by the unknown object, the crew was able to initially control the situation. They further confirmed there were no reports of injuries or deaths, and no environmental damage has been observed from the incident. However, the nature and origin of the object that hit the ship have not been disclosed, as authorities continue investigating the cause.
