LEGO created a stir in downtown New York City, USA, by unveiling a giant World Cup trophy replica made from more than 1.36 million LEGO bricks. The display attracted a lively crowd of residents and tourists.
The World Cup trophy model was displayed at Rockefeller Plaza in central Manhattan, standing 27 feet tall, or about 8.2 meters. It was constructed from over 1.36 million LEGO bricks, assembled in the Czech Republic before being transported to New York City.
LEGO revealed that the construction of this giant trophy involved 56 builders and took more than 7,000 hours to complete. The project was inspired by the LEGO FIFA World Cup Trophy collectible set available for purchase.
The designer of the set, Christophe Vietti, a LEGO model designer, traveled to personally unveil the work alongside Cafu, the former captain of Brazil's World Cup-winning national team, despite the opening ceremony being held amid rain.
Vietti said he showed the model to Cafu before the unveiling, and the former Brazilian player remarked that it looked exactly like the real trophy, a compliment that made the team very proud.
At the event, lucky LEGO fans were also given the chance to place the final brick on the giant trophy, becoming part of this historic creative project.
Cafu stated that both football and LEGO have the power to connect people, whether children gathering to play football on the streets or building LEGO at home—activities that bring joy and unite people from diverse countries.
The LEGO World Cup trophy is a key highlight of the LEGO World Cup Fan Zone, open to the public and tourists from 6 to 19 July 2026 GMT+7.
