Woman Suspected of Monaco Bombing Found Dead in Ukraine Officials Believe She Was Tortured

A woman suspected of bombing a Ukrainian billionaire in Monaco last month was found dead in Ukraine. Officials have arrested two individuals believed to be the assassins, one of whom is affiliated with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

On Tuesday, 7 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced that Anastasia Berezovska, 39, the woman suspected of placing the parcel bomb in Monaco that injured a sanctioned Ukrainian billionaire and his family, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Currently, two suspects are in custody on suspicion of joint murder, including one active officer from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.

The attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. local time on 29 June, when the perpetrator left a backpack containing a bomb in the lobby entrance of a residential building in Monaco. The blast seriously injured Vadim Yermolayev, a Ukrainian real estate businessman, and his wife, while their 13-year-old son sustained minor injuries.

Monaco authorities released CCTV footage showing the suspect fleeing after placing the backpack. Investigations revealed the attacker was a Ukrainian woman disguised as a man, likely not acting alone. She fled abroad, sparking a major manhunt.

However, SBU officials recently revealed that Berezovska’s body was found in a Kyiv region house, with a gunshot wound to the head. She had been confined in a basement room described as “similar to a torture chamber.”

A video of the room released by Ukraine’s Attorney General showed a pink mat stained with small blood spots, two axes, a hoe, a tarp covering the floor, and a large bag.

An SBU statement citing law enforcement sources said Berezovska arrived in Ukraine on 1 July, about two days after the attack. Upon arrival, she contacted family and two men: one a former law enforcement officer, the other an active intelligence officer with the Ministry of Defense.

The two men were arrested as suspects in Berezovska’s murder and are under investigation as possible accomplices in the Monaco attack, based on evidence of multiple money transfers to Berezovska’s bank and crypto accounts.

The SBU added that the basement room was discovered during a raid on the former law enforcement officer’s home. Later, the intelligence officer confessed to killing Berezovska, implicating another suspect as an accomplice.

The investigation continues with private assistance from Oleg Ivashchenko, head of the Intelligence Office.

Police believe Berezovska fled Monaco using a rental car to Italy, then traveled to Germany. On Thursday, 2 Jul, special forces raided an apartment rented by a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman “currently on the run” in Hesse, central Germany.

On Friday, 3 Jul, Interpol issued a red notice alerting police worldwide to detain her as a fugitive suspect for attempted murder, public bombing, and conspiracy to commit crimes.

The SBU said Ukrainian authorities have shared all information with Monaco officials. Ukraine’s Attorney General is working "closely" with Monaco while law enforcement agencies seek to identify other suspects linked to the attack.
