Global oil prices rose more than 3% after Iran attacked Qatar's liquefied natural gas tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, amid continuing attacks on oil tankers.
On 7 July 2026, international news agencies reported that global oil prices increased following an attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. This attack underscores the fragility of the temporary ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran as both sides continue negotiations to end the conflict.
Following the incident, Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, closed up 3% at $74.16 per barrel, approximately 2,420 baht. Meanwhile, the US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 2.8%, closing at $70.44 per barrel, about 2,300 baht.
Dr. Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Iran attacked Qatar's LNG tanker Al-Rekayyat near the Strait of Hormuz. He called on Iran to stop actions that undermine regional security and endanger international maritime safety, adding that Iran must legally be held responsible for all damages and impacts caused.
