Trump Believes Iran War Will Not Ignite Another Round

Donald Trump believes that war with Iran will not flare up again, even though both sides have exchanged retaliatory attacks in recent days, while the U.S. leader has threatened possible further strikes against Iran tonight.

On Wednesday, 8 July 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump said at a press conference in Ankara, Turkey, that he does not think war with Iran will "start again," despite recent clashes between the two sides, and that he had just threatened to attack Iran again tonight.

"I don't think it will start again. I think this will end very quickly. They attacked a few ships, and we responded much more forcefully. When they attack, we strike back ten times harder. You know, we hit them much harder," Trump said when asked if war would erupt again.

However, Trump did not indicate he would back down from his threat to launch another attack on Iran, saying, "We are just using the same language they use."

"I think whatever happens, it will end very quickly, and we will just... make the situation safer, including the oil. Oil transportation will be free and smooth, and it will happen very fast," Trump added, noting, "We are not planning any long-term attacks."

This statement is somewhat more positive compared to earlier remarks when he said the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) he signed with Iran three weeks ago had "ended," and threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure, including freshwater plants, in response to Iran's attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
