The United States launched a new wave of attacks on Iran Wednesday night, with Donald Trump threatening that U.S. retaliatory strikes would escalate if Iran does not stop attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
On the night of Wednesday, 8 July 2026 (U.S. time), President Donald Trump once again warned Iran that U.S. retaliatory attacks would be “much more severe” if Iran continued targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz, following the U.S. initiation of a new round of attacks on Iran that same night.
“This is in response to Iran bombing a ship yesterday. If it happens again, it will be much worse!” Trump said, after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced earlier that the United States had begun launching a new wave of attacks on Iran.
Alongside this warning, Trump posted an image depicting a violent incident that appeared to be computer-generated, showing a large plume of smoke rising above two buildings, with a brightly lit cityscape in the background.
However, the user who first posted this image later deleted it and added, “I just double-checked, and this image is not from tonight’s events. It was my mistake, and I take full responsibility.”
This warning came after Trump shared three videos showing damage that appeared to result from attacks, although he did not specify when or where the footage was recorded.
Meanwhile, several Iranian media outlets reported about ten explosions in the cities of Chabahar and Konarak, another coastal city, causing widespread power outages in Chabahar. Imam Ali Hospital sustained minor damage from shrapnel.
Reports also indicated missile strikes on Abu Musa Island in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz, as well as in the city of Sirik. Explosions were also reported in the city of Jask and at two military bases in Bushehr.
