Tragic Landslide Buries Tunnel Construction Site in India, 3 Dead, 5 Missing Amid Ongoing Rescue Efforts

A mountainside landslide struck a tunnel construction site in Kerala state, becoming a viral video. At least three fatalities have been confirmed, while authorities continue urgent searches for five missing people amid ongoing rain.

A major landslide occurred at a tunnel construction site in Kerala, southern India, caused by continuous heavy monsoon rains. A dramatic video of the moment circulated widely on social media. Rescue officials have so far found at least three deceased workers and are actively searching for five more missing persons amid persistent rain and muddy conditions.

This tragic event took place in Wayanad district, a mountainous area known for its rich forests and steep terrain. A massive volume of earth suddenly slid down, engulfing the tunnel construction area, trapping several workers who could not escape beneath the debris.

Despite the continuing harsh weather, rescue teams persist in their search for the missing, employing machinery to clear debris and reach areas believed to have trapped survivors.

Local hospitals reported receiving nine injured patients, one critically ill and in a critical condition. Medical staff and officials are closely monitoring and caring for the wounded.

Besides Kerala, monsoon rains have caused widespread damage in many parts of India, including western and northern regions, leading to multiple flash floods and landslides. New Delhi also experienced heavy rainfall, submerging many areas underwater, despite the rain helping alleviate earlier heat waves.

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings of continued heavy rainfall for several northern regions over the next three days, urging residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert due to possible flash floods and additional landslides.
