Indonesian President Prabowo welcomed Thaksin Shinawatra along with Pha Thongtharn and Yingluck Shinawatra at his private residence to discuss regional situations, global developments, and to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
On 10 July 2026, Indonesian news agency Antara reported that President Prabowo Subianto received former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his family at his private residence on Kertanegara Street, Jakarta, last Wednesday. The two discussed important regional situations and developments in global geopolitics.
The Indonesian Presidential Secretariat stated that Thaksin traveled with his family, including Ms. Pha Thongtharn Shinawatra, former Thai Prime Minister.
Tedi Indra Wijaya, Secretary of the Indonesian Cabinet, said the meeting was warm and friendly, serving as an opportunity to continue the longstanding friendship between both sides. He noted that they exchanged views on global situations, strategic issues, and regional dynamics. He added that the Indonesian government continues to build relationships and communication with world leaders and key figures from various countries to expand international cooperation and enhance Indonesia’s role on the global stage.
Reports indicate that Prabowo maintains close ties with the Shinawatra family despite ongoing political changes in Thailand over recent years. In March, he appointed Thaksin as one of the advisors to 'Danantara,' Indonesia’s national wealth fund. The government believes involving internationally renowned figures will help build investor confidence after the Indonesian stock market experienced volatility.
