Bangladesh is experiencing floods and landslides in several areas, which have already claimed 44 lives and left over one million residents stranded. Rescue operations are proceeding under difficult conditions.
Foreign news agencies reported on 11 Jul 2026 that Bangladesh has faced continuous heavy rain for several days, causing floods and landslides in the southeastern region. At least 44 people have died, and more than one million residents remain trapped in affected areas, with rescue teams rushing to deliver aid to communities.
The Ministry of Disaster Management of Bangladesh revealed that flooding across seven districts—Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj—has disrupted daily life. Thousands of families have been cut off, with 267,918 households stranded.
Relief and rescue efforts have been delayed due to power outages, damaged roads, and severed communication networks in the affected zones. Many residents have been unable to cook for several days because their homes are submerged under floodwater.
Residents have had to rely on dry foods such as popped rice, puffed rice, or biscuits that require no cooking, along with emergency relief supplies.
The Bangladesh Army and Navy are using boats to transport food, drinking water, medicines, and other essentials to isolated communities, while officials intensify their relief operations.
“The government is doing everything possible to assist flood victims. Relief supplies, safe drinking water, and medical provisions are being distributed, and we urge residents in flooded homes to move to the nearest shelters,” said Iqbal Hossain, Minister of Disaster Management and Relief.
Earlier, heavy rains triggered a landslide that buried a school in the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, killing 16 refugees, including women and children.
