North Korea Orders All Sectors to Prepare for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds from Tropical Storm Bavi

North Korea has ordered all sectors to prepare for heavy rain and strong winds from the influence of Tropical Storm Bavi, which has weakened into a depression, while warning that some areas may receive up to 200 millimeters of accumulated rainfall.

On 15 July 2026 GMT+7, Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's official newspaper, reported that authorities have instructed all sectors to accelerate measures to prevent damage from heavy rain and strong gusts following the impact of Tropical Storm Bavi. The storm weakened into a depression after making landfall in China.

North Korea's Meteorological Office issued a heavy rain and strong wind warning effective until Wednesday, urging all agencies, areas, and sectors to closely monitor and fully prepare for the weather conditions.

The report stated that North Pyongan Province, southern central regions, and parts of Chagang Province bordering China are expected to receive 80-120 millimeters of rain on Tuesday. Some areas of North Pyongan, South Pyongan, and southern parts of the country may see up to 150-200 millimeters of accumulated rainfall. Additionally, strong winds of 10-15 meters per second are forecast along the western coast and some inland areas.

Consequently, North Korean authorities have ordered a review of disaster prevention measures, inspections of flood-prone areas, and the readiness of medical personnel to respond to potential emergencies.
