Donald Trump Pays $5.6 Million Damages in Sexual Assault Case with Female Writer

Donald Trump has paid $5.6 million in damages to American writer E. Jean Carroll in a sexual assault and defamation lawsuit.

Foreign news agencies reported, citing court documents filed Tuesday, 14 Jul 2026 GMT+7, that Donald Trump, the U.S. president, paid $5.6 million to writer Elizabeth Jean Carroll after a civil jury found him liable for sexually assaulting and defaming her.

"Three years ago, a nine-member jury unanimously found President Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll," said Roberta Kaplan, Carroll's attorney, in a statement.

"Today, we are pleased to announce that she has received the damages awarded by the jury as a result of that verdict," she added.

In late June, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Trump's appeal seeking to have the May 2023 verdict reconsidered, making the judgment final.

Carroll, a former journalist and columnist now aged 82, accused President Trump of assaulting her in a New York department store fitting room in 1996.

When Carroll published her allegations in a 2019 book, Donald Trump called her "mentally ill" and claimed the story was fabricated, prompting Carroll to add defamation claims.

In a separate defamation case in New York, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $83.3 million; that ruling was upheld on appeal but its enforcement is currently stayed.
