
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with a senior Chinese political adviser during a visit to Pyongyang on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the China-North Korea Friendship Treaty, reaffirming the commitment to expand cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.
On 17 July 2026, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim Jong Un, North Korea's supreme leader, held talks with Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Wang led a Chinese delegation visiting Pyongyang for three days to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance between China and North Korea.
During their meeting last Thursday, Wang Huning, considered the fourth highest-ranking official in China, conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping to Kim Jong Un. The North Korean leader expressed his gratitude and sent his own regards back to the Chinese leader.
Kim Jong Un said the dispatch of a high-level delegation reflects China's emphasis on the bilateral relationship and its commitment to advancing agreements reached by the two leaders. He also noted that the friendship treaty plays a vital role in safeguarding the fundamental interests of both countries, as well as promoting peace and security regionally and globally. He affirmed that the Workers' Party and North Korean government will continue to strengthen cooperation with China.
