Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked a Thai merchant vessel as it sailed through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, alleging the ship ignored warnings and attempted to transit without authorization.
A news agency close to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that the IRGC Navy attacked a Thai-flagged merchant ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz last Friday, claiming the vessel disregarded warnings and tried to sail through without permission.
IRGC media also released a video allegedly showing damage to the ship after the attack. However, there is no independent confirmation that the footage is indeed of the Thai-flagged ship, and no official reports have been made regarding injuries or fatalities aboard the vessel.
This incident happened amid ongoing heightened conflict between the U.S. and Iran. On the same day, the U.S. continued airstrikes on Iranian targets for the seventh consecutive night, while Iran retaliated with attacks on U.S. and allied targets in multiple countries, increasing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
So far, there has been no statement from the Thai government or Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident, and details about the ship, crew, or damage remain unconfirmed.
